Relax,    Revive,    Escape

Bio & Beliefs

My name is Robert and massage is my life and my passion. I live and work in Vacaville, but also provide outcalls in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Whether you regularly receive massage or have never had a massage in your life, I can customize a massage experience that you will find comfortable, relaxing and will help your mind and body to escape the stress, noise and static of everyday life. No matter what stress and anxiety you have in your daily life I can help you find your Sweet Escape. I love giving massage not just for the short term reward but for the life-long changes that it can make in peoples' lives. In the short term, regular massage can improve cardiovascular health, lymphatic health (thus boosting the body's immune response), digestive health, muscular development, decrease stress, relieve pain and create overall well being. My certification is in Swedish Technique, but I also incorporate elements of other modalities into my massage including Deep Tissue, Lomi Lomi, Craniosacral and Reflexology.

I would never claim that massage will transform your life, however through massage you can find the power to transform yourself. Massage has taught me that every decision and action in my life is in fact my own; control is only lost when I become reactionary versus "actionary." By remembering to listen to my body and find my breathe whenever I feel stress or anxiety I am able to make sound, rational and healthy decisions.

In the long-term, massage can create a greater awareness of our bodies, improve self-esteem, decrease depression and help us to become more honest with our deeper self.

Massage Myths

Massage is a luxury activity.

Well, I won't lie, massage can feel very luxurious. Most find that by receiving massage they are able to let their mind and body melt away and escape the stress of their life as well as experience a reduction in bodily strain, aches, and pains. By reducing stress and tension on the body you will positively impact your cardio, digestive, lymphatic and nervous system resulting in better health, less illness and a greater sense of well-being. According to a recent study 75-90% of doctor's visits are due to stress-related injuries or illness. Massage IS preventative health, which should not be a luxury. I think it's about time the government start issuing monthly massage vouchers for all!

Massage Hurts.

This is, unfortunately, a common misunderstanding about massage, usually as a result of either a badly trained practitioner or images we see in popular culture. While certain modalities such as deep-tissue and trigger point may require some moments of slight discomfort in order to address muscles and tension areas, a skilled practitioner should be intuitive and constantly checking in to make sure that the clients is as comfortable as possible. Please accept my apologies if you have experienced pain in massage and my assurance that when done properly, massage should not hurt.

Massage is for Women.

Well, I would have to agree with this one, after all, men are completely impervious to stress, anxiety and pain. WRONG! Massage is for all, no matter what age, gender or size. While the style of massage and pressure will differ from person to person, everyone experiences stress and strain and can benefit from bodywork. That is all I am going to say about this silly notion.

Massage is the Manipulation of Muscles.

While it is part of massage it is certainly not the definition of massage. Beyond the movement and compression of muscles and soft-tissue, the power of massage lies much deeper in our bodies, all the way down to our DNA. Touch stimulates physiological processes and causes the body to release natural painkillers and neurotransmitters necessary for mental function. Americans, in general are very touch deprived, regarding even casual touch as taboo. This makes the importance of touch, connection and presence in a massage that much more important. Massage should make you feel nurtured and cared for.  Those who frequently receive massage know that the difference in a good massage and a bad massage is often the quality of touch and the presence of mind and spirit that the massage therapist holds with the client.

I'm Not Experiencing Pain So I Don't Need Massage.

You might be surprised at what your body has become used to. Often my clients have found tension within their body that they did not know they had. Their bodies had become used to it, which is often worse than sensing the pain. When our bodies become accustomed to pain they are usually compensating in other ways, or referring the pain somewhere else. As an example, muscle tension in the back, along the spinal column can result in everything from allergies and dizziness to Bronchitis. I have never come across a body that didn't benefit from massage in some way.

F.A.Q.'s

Do I Have to Get Naked for a Massage?

Your comfort and relaxation is my top priority. You are free to leave on or take off however much clothing is comfortable for you. Many people take off all their clothing and many leave on some or all undergarments. If you wish to leave on more than undergarments just understand that it limits my ability to address that part of the body and won't be able to use oils or lotions. Because most people prefer draping (being covered with a sheet) and it is the standard practice in Western Massage I incorporate it into my massage. Unlike many therapists, I don't believe that draping is an absolute must in massage. If someone is comfortable enough with their body that they don't wish to be draped I am comfortable working with them undraped. We are constantly told by society that the body is something to be ashamed of. I don't prescribe to this myth and am not going to reinforce it by telling someone comfortable with an undraped massage that they need to be covered. As stated though, unless you tell me you don't want to be draped, I will assume that you do.

How Long of a Massage Should I Book?

The answer depends entirely upon what you want to gain from the massage and of course, what fits into your budget . If you are just looking for relaxing massage without any major problem areas than a 1 hour massage would be perfectly adequate. If you are experiencing pain or tension in the body and want some extra attention paid to those areas as well, than you may want to go with a 75 minute or 90 minute massage. If you really want to escape your body and treat yourself to a wonderful experience than a 2 hour is total bliss.

How Often Should I Be Getting Massage?

This too depends on the person. If you seek out massage for relaxation then I would say, just come back whenever you are feeling the need to relax, unwind and find your Sweet Escape. Depending upon your budget many find that receiving massage every 2-3 weeks keeps them grounded and helps them to deal with stress. Some prefer every week and some once a month or every two months. The answer is simply whatever your body needs and your budget will allow. If you are seeking massage because of pain, injury or other physical therapy then you may likely need several sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart. I can advise on this after the first session.

What If I'm Overweight or Embarrassed About My Body?

Unfortunately, this feeling keeps a lot of people from seeking out massage and enjoying all the pleasures it has to offer. Massage is for all people, no matter size, weight or age. Massage therapists work with people of all sizes so please don't feel that you will be judged or treated any differently than someone in peak physical condition. Perfection is an unobtainable social construct anyway, designed and marketed to make us spend money because we feel bad about ourselves. I wish that everyone could break free of this myth and embrace the beauty of diversity.

What Parts of My Body Will Be Massaged?

Just like draping and undressing this is a matter of your own personal comfort. While areas like the genitals are not ever part of my massage, there are other areas that some are uncomfortable with being massaged. These areas often include the abdomen, gluteal area and the face or head. I discuss with all new clients during the intake whether they are uncomfortable having these or other areas worked on. I respect all requests in this regard.

Reviews

"My first massage with Robert was exceptional.  At the time (over a year ago), he was on path to receive his certification, but he had the touch of a seasoned professional who had been practicing massage his entire life.  The facilities were very clean, the ambient temperature was perfect, and his energy was very positive.  After our one-hour session, I was so relaxed that I drove home to take a nap, and slept like a blissful baby.  Robert remains at the top of my list of massage therapists, and he is highly recommended."   J.R.

"My recent massage experience with Robert far surpassed my expectations. I started getting massages over the last couple of years and make a point of trying out different CMT's until I find someone that not only has the right talent to suit my needs, but also someone with which I feel a unique connection -- I have finally found that person in Robert. Prior to contacting Robert I had reached out to several CMT's asking if they could take a "last minute appointment" that same day. Given several unsuccessful attempts at making an appointment I continued my online search.  When I contacted Robert he promptly responded and said that he would be more than happy to book a time with me that fit right with my schedule.
Upon arriving at Robert's studio his kind welcome and pristine space made me immediately feel comfortable. Before the massage we had a glass of water and chatted a bit which made me feel even more comfortable. From the minute I laid on his table to the time I walked out the door I knew that I had made an excellent choice. The massage experience I had with Robert was one of the best I have ever had. During the massage he incorporated such incredible technique... for me, Robert provides the perfect "massage package" that I've been looking for for years. My search for the "right" masseur is over."  R.L.

"I've been searching for that elusive "perfect" masseur for a long time. My standards are high - I want someone that is strong, intuitive, happy, deeply talented, and a real pro. I met that person today, Robert of Sweet Escape Massage. I met Robert at his studio, and was drawn to his easy, sweet, comfortable manner immediately. It was like meeting a new old friend. Robert asked me several questions so that he would know exactly what I wanted from our session, and delivered on every request, and then some. I enjoy deep body work, and Robert went deep - really deep, but never too deep. He regularly checked in with me to make sure the pressure was comfortable. Robert also included some amazing stretching and body-folding techniques I've never experienced before, and they left me limber and tingling. Robert puts all of his very positive energy into his work, and it is palpable - I was literally giddy when the massage ended, and feel very luck and grateful to have finally found the "perfect" masseur. I can't recommend Robert highly enough."  L.S.
